The Whakatane district is steeped in cultural history. Come on either a 2 hr Guided walk exploring this wonderful cultural landscape or a 4hr trip to Motuhora - Whale island.
Coastal Discovery Walk. This adventure takes in the beautiful coastal environment around Whakatane's CBD. The tour visits historical sites including two waterfalls, a wetland, a cave and much more. Learn how great navigators discovered what is now Whakatane. Visit the landing site of the Mataatua Waka and hear their epic stories of journey and discovery. Also available is a walk to the Ancient Pa site Kaputerangi which takes in two other Pa sites on route. Motuhora (Whale Island) Discovery. An ocean landmark rich in history. Now a wildlife sanctuary. An Historic, Maori cultural experience. |
