In Search of paradise?
If your idea of heaven is a coffee-assisted, two hour perusal of a weekend newspaper, Muruparas mountainous, forested surrounds are probaly not your cup of latte.

The Murupara region is 85 kilometre's, an hour's drive south of Whakatane. Murupara is the entry point for the Whirinaki Forest Park that offers a range of walking tracks for every level of fitness and mobility. From an easy half-hour stroll to a rugged, five-day tramp, there is something for everyone.
Te Urewera National Park is also accessible from Murupara for a myriad of walking and hunting adventures.

Murupara is also famous for it's Trout Fishing and there are a number of guides available to take you to the many streams and rivers to fish. Legendary locations include the Whaeo, Whirinaki and Rangitaiki Rivers, Horomanga Stream and Lake Aniwhenua.
Murupara and the small back-country communities which dot this magnificent landscape are not major tourism destinations but home to genuinely warm people who are wonderful and interesting hosts and are very proud of their area.
Accommodation options range from motels and backpackers and farm-stays, park huts and campgrounds to luxury lodges and cottages. Whatever your budget or taste, the people of this land will welcome you to their world.
