Earthquake strengthening demand prompts business move

A building and construction consultancy company will be coming to Whakatāne in March this year in response to a demand for earthquake strengthening.

Sean Marshall, Director of Prendos NZ Ltd, announced the new location after an increase in demand for the structural engineering services area of the company, particularly relating to earthquake strengthening.

Whakatāne district council's Earthquake-Prone Buildings Programme was set up in 2014 in response to proposed government legislation covering the identification, assessment and strengthening requirements for earthquake-prone buildings. Initial evaluation procedures carried out on buildings within the Whakatāne CBD area indicated that 67 percent were likely to be earthquake-prone, meaning those buildings may not meet 34 percent of the new building standard under the proposed legislation.

“The support Prendos has received from other businesses and clients in the area has been very encouraging. We look forward to establishing our office here and the potential benefits our services will bring the community,” says Sean Marshall.

Prendos’ provides multiple services for clients undertaking new build and remedial work including Architecture, Valuations, Building Surveying, Project Management and Quantity Surveying. The company currently has offices in Tauranga, Whangarei, Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch.

The new office will be located in the recently earthquake strengthened ASB House at 202, The Strand and will open on March 18 2016. BlackmanSpargo rural lawyers and EDC will also occupy the suite.
