Youth Are The Future

Youth Are The Future  - Kristy Robinson

A dynamic group of local youth, and agencies supporting youth, are working together on something special in Whakatāne for this years Youth Week.

This year the nationwide campaign for Youth Week will be held from the 25th to the 31st of May.  The theme for this youth oriented week is “We Are the Future”.

Head students and prefects from Trident and Whakatāne High School have joined forces with WACT, Tech Pā, Whakatāne Blue Light, the Whakatāne Youth Council and other local organisations who work with youth to put on a number of events and activities, including a video making competition, and a concert.

The concert is specifically for youth and will be held at the Liberty Centre on Friday 29th May from 6-9pm, and will feature performances from local dance crews, bands and singers, including Cameron Rota, Reon – the winner from last year’s ‘Yeah Nah’ song quest, and Jonny Searle who made the top 12 boys in this years X-Factor competition.

The theme for the video competition is Road Safety and youth are being invited to create a short video (up to 2 minutes long) showing what road safety means to them.  Organisers feel that the theme of the competition aligns well with the overall Youth Week theme for this year.  Youth are the future, and we need to keep our youth safe and well for tomorrow.

Information about youth week is available on the new Whakatāne Youth Week website – www.whkyouthweek.com, or you can find them on Facebook – www.facebook.com/whkyw
