I will empower individuals to manage their lymphoedema independently. Lymphoedema is a persistent swelling for 3 or more months that can occur almost anywhere on the body. You can be born with an abnormal lymphatic system(primary lymphoedema) OR Your lymphatic system can get damaged (secondary lymphoedema)Causes of this are some treatments for cancer, removal of lymph nodes/surgery, injury, infection or obesity. Early signs of lymphoedema are feeling your skin is stretched, and jewellery or clothing feeling tight on the affected side. The affected side/area looks bigger to you than the other side. The affected side /area feels"heavy" and aches. You get an infection of the skin (cellulitis) Early detection and treatment will give you the best outcome. In collaboration with your other healthcare providers, I can work alongside you to manage and lessen lymphoedema.
I provide a comprehensive assessment and safe treatment plan tailored to your individual needs, abilities and circumstances. The treatment includes ongoing education about the lymphatic system, skin care, healthy eating, exercise, compression therapy and manual lymphatic drainage. My training is as a registered nurse and lymphoedema practitioner, ALA Accredited.
