Surfcasting Fishing

Gathering Shellfish

Gathering shellfish is a great activity and a really good family outing. You can hunt for your own underfoot or set out on a search and combine shellfishing with a nature expedition and guide. Species we often find are Pipi, Tuatua (cockles), Mussells and Kina.

Rock Fishing

Rock fishing is a great way to get into fishing without going to the expense of buying or hiring a boat. Rock fishing tends to be more productive than beach fishing and with some basic information and a little local knowledge, you'll soon be able to catch a feed of fish from the rocks. Long Lining

In New Zealand kontiki fishing has always been a popular way to deploy fishing lines well offshore and catch fish for the table, it's also a lot of fun! The Torpedo Longline is an electric kontiki that powers your line and baited hooks out to sea, then acts as a float on the end of your long line. Timer controlled and operated by a simple toggle switch. Simply launch in knee deep water, stand back and watch. Matata to Waiotahi.
