The Whakatane Coastguard encourages all boaties to call the Whakatane Coastguard when leaving and returning to port, also when moving position during the day. The Coastguard Whakatane monitors channels 18, 60, 16.

Coastguard Whakatane monitors the below VHF channels from 08:00 until 18:00 every day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. After 18:00 Coastguard Northern Region or Coastguard Eastern Region takes over until 08:00 next morning.
The following channels are monitored -

Opotiki Ch 18
Whakatane Surf Lifesaving Ch 69 (Summer)
Single side band 4417 KHz
