Dog Friendly Walks & Reserves

Whakatane is a dog-friendly haven with plenty of opportunities to enjoy outdoor walks and exercise with your furry companion. With designated "dog exercise" areas scattered throughout the region, you and your dog can explore and have fun together in nature. Most reserves, parks, and beaches in Whakatane are open for dogs to roam and play. However, it's essential to be aware of prohibited areas where dogs are not allowed to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone. These areas include children's playgrounds, Kohi Point, bird walk areas (kiwi zoned areas), and Mokorua Gorge. To maintain the harmony between dogs, wildlife, and the community, it's crucial for dog owners to adhere to these guidelines. Authorities take these restrictions seriously, and entering prohibited areas with dogs may result in an instant $300 fine. When exploring Whakatane's dog-friendly walks and reserves, always keep your dog on a leash where required, and make sure to clean up after your pet. Respecting the rules ensures that both you and your four-legged friend can continue to enjoy the beautiful natural spaces in Whakatane. So, grab your dog's leash and head out to one of the many designated dog exercise areas to experience the joy of walking, playing, and bonding with your furry friend in this dog-friendly paradise.
