Surfcasting Fishing
New Zealand has 15,811km (9,824 miles) of coastline. The general public has surfcasting access to almost all of it; and there are still plenty of good fish to catch! Surfcasting has universal appeal. At the beach it is just you and your rod versus the fish. You might be after a fish for dinner or just like surfcasting for fun. You have come to the right place. Pacific Coast Adventures can take you to the best spots on the EBOPs coastline. From Matata to Waiotahi. Species we often catch are Snapper, Kahawai, Gurnard, Trevally and King Fish.
Gathering Shellfish
Gathering shellfish is a great activity and a really good family outing. You can hunt for your own underfoot or set out on a search and combine shellfishing with a nature expedition and guide. Species we often find are Pipi, Tuatua (cockles), Mussells and Kina.
Rock Fishing
Rock fishing is a great way to get into fishing without going to the expense of buying or hiring a boat. Rock fishing tends to be more productive than beach fishing and with some basic information and a little local knowledge, you'll soon be able to catch a feed of fish from the rocks. Pacific Coast Adventures know all the best spots including the Whakatane Heads, Otarawairere and West End Ohope. Species we often catch are Snapper, Kahawai, Gurnard, Trevally and King Fish.
Long Lining
In New Zealand kontiki fishing has always been a popular way to deploy fishing lines well offshore and catch fish for the table, it's also a lot of fun! The Torpedo Longline is an electric kontiki that powers your line and baited hooks out to sea, then acts as a float on the end of your long line. Timer controlled and operated by a simple toggle switch. Simply launch in knee deep water, stand back and watch. Matata to Waiotahi. Species we often catch are Snapper, Kahawai, Gurnard, Trevally and King Fish.
